Fieldwork is the first public exhibition from Richard Höglund’s project sequence, The true definition of Man does not involve any consideration of the number 20. Richard uses drawing throughout the project as a method of recording labor in a series of translations that begin with Baruch de Spinoza’s Ethics and evolve through diverse sub-projects ranging from a narrative video suite, to a conference series, to a 5k road-race and a boxing match. In this exhibition Richard will exhibit works on canvas, paper, and sculpture.
Höglund has exhibited work at the Lyon Biennial, The National Gallery in Bulgaria and various other institutions. In 2008 Richard was a finalist for the Jean Claude Reynal prize and is a recipient of the Prix Jeune Creation, Paris. This year Richard has been an artist in residence at the Samband Islenskra Myndlistarmanna in Reykjavík, Iceland, and in 2010 will exhibit and be on residence with the Villa Bernasconi in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is also creating a citywide project supported by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Geneva. The works for the exhibition at Gallery Diet are being made at The Fountainhead Residency in Miami, Florida.
This will be Richard’s second solo exhibition at Gallery Diet.
